DefinitionThe Greek transliteration of the Hebrew Ge-Hinnom, the Valley of Hinnom outside Jerusalem — a place where children had been sacrificed to Molech and where refuse was burned. Jesus used it as the primary term for the place of final, eternal punishment. It appears twelve times in the NT, eleven of them from the lips of Christ.
Key Verses"And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell." (Matthew 5:30)
