Christ

CategoryTheological Term / Title of Jesus
Modern Equivalentthe Anointed One; the Messiah; the title of Jesus of Nazareth.
KJV Word TypeNoun (proper title)
DefinitionThe Greek translation of the Hebrew Mashiach (Messiah), meaning "the Anointed One." In the OT, priests, kings, and prophets were anointed for their offices. Jesus is the fulfillment of all three — the ultimate Prophet, Priest, and King anointed by the Spirit without measure. "Christ" became so closely associated with Jesus that it functions as a second name.
Key Verses"Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." (Matthew 16:16); "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ." (Acts 2:36)
