DefinitionA Hebrew word of affirmation meaning "truly" or "so be it," carried directly into Greek and English without translation. In the OT it is a congregational response of agreement. Christ uniquely used "Verily, verily" (Amen, amen) to introduce solemn statements of truth. It closes prayers and doxologies throughout the NT.
