📖 1. Reading the Bible

The reading experience is the heart of BibleText.com. Every one of the 66 books of the King James Bible is available by chapter, displayed as a clean, book-styled page with verse numbers, red-letter support for the words of Jesus, and a drop-cap on the first verse of each chapter.

How to navigate to any chapter

1. From the home page, find your book in the Old Testament or New Testament column and click its name. You will land on Chapter 1.
2. On any reading page, the left sidebar shows all chapters for the current book as numbered links. Click any number to jump directly to that chapter.
3. To switch books, use the ☰ Change Book accordion at the bottom of the sidebar — it lists all 66 books grouped by testament.
4. At the bottom of every chapter, Previous and Next arrows let you page through the Bible continuously.

On mobile and tablet, tap the ☰ Books & Chapters bar that appears above the reading area to open the slide-in sidebar drawer.

Book Overview pages

Every book has a dedicated About page giving rich background: authorship, historical period, purpose, major themes, and a detailed chapter-by-chapter outline. Click the small About link next to any book name on the home page, or tap the About Book button in the chapter action bar while reading.

Chapter action buttons

A row of action buttons appears above every chapter:

• Bookmark — saves this chapter to your bookmarks (login required).
• Chapter Note — opens a note editor for the current chapter (login required).
• Print — opens a clean, UI-free print view of the chapter.
• About Book — goes to the book overview page.
• Share — copies a link to this chapter or opens the native share menu.

🎵 2. Audio & Video Narration

BibleText.com features the complete KJV Bible narrated by Alexander Scourby — the most celebrated voice in Bible audio history — for all 66 books. The New Testament (Matthew through Revelation) also includes Scenic Wonders Bible video narration with stunning scenic footage.

How to use narration

1. Open any reading chapter. A media bar appears at the bottom of the screen.
2. The bar shows two toggle buttons: Audio and Video (Video only appears for New Testament chapters). Click either to start narration.
3. Click the active button again to switch it off (silence). Click the inactive button to switch modes.
4. Your preference is saved automatically — coming back to the same chapter will resume from where you left off.

Verse Follow Highlight

As narration plays, the Follow toggle (in the media bar) synchronizes a gold highlight to the verse currently being read aloud. This makes it easy to read along while listening. Toggle it on or off at any time during playback.

Jumping to a specific verse

When you arrive at a reading page via a concordance, topic, or search result link that targets a specific verse, the narration will automatically seek to that verse and begin playing from there (with the verse highlighted). The saved position for that chapter is not overwritten, so your regular reading spot is preserved.

🔍 3. Search, Concordance & Topics

The Search page gathers four powerful KJV study tools into a single hub, each on its own tab.

Cross-References on reading pages

While reading, each verse displays linked cross-references — other passages in the Bible that relate to the same theme, prophecy, or word. These come from the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge (TSK) and a built-in similarity engine. Click any reference badge to jump to that verse.

Use the Cross-Refs toggle in the text-size bar at the top of the chapter to show or hide all cross-reference links. Your preference is saved and applies to every page.

💬 4. Bible Assistant

Ask any Bible question in plain language and receive a detailed, scripture-grounded answer from the AI assistant — free, with no login required. The AI specializes in KJV scripture, theology, and church history.

The AI Chatbot while reading

On any reading page, the AI Chatbot panel on the right side is context-aware — it knows which book and chapter you are reading and can discuss the passage directly. When you open the chat, up to three starter question tiles appear — on a reading page these are chapter-specific prompts such as “Summarize this chapter” or “What are the key themes?”; on other pages general Bible questions appear. Click any tile to fill the input, then send when ready.

📚 5. Bible Stories

The Bible Stories page is a browsable collection of hundreds of named stories from Genesis to Revelation, each with an overview, linked scripture chapters and verses, and optional AI insights.

How to use Bible Stories

1. Filter by Old Testament, New Testament, or browse All. Use the A–Z letter filter or the keyword search box to narrow results.
2. Click any story in the left panel. The right panel shows the full story overview, details (characters, themes, memory verse), linked chapter and verse links, and AI insights.
3. Click a linked chapter to open it in the reader, or a verse link to jump directly to that verse.
4. Logged-in users can Add to Study to save the story and its AI insights to a personal Bible study.

📄 6. KJV Bible Glossary

The KJV Glossary currently contains over 500 curated definitions of archaic and theological words used in the King James Bible — words like propitiation, firmament, besom, and charity — with etymology, key verses, and AI insights.

How to use the Glossary

1. Click any letter in the A–Z filter bar to load all words starting with that letter.
2. Click a word in the left panel. The right panel shows the full definition, pronunciation, usage example, and key scripture references.
3. The What Does AI Say section beneath the definition gives contextual theological insight for the term.
4. Logged-in users can Add to Study to save the glossary entry to a personal Bible study.

🎨 7. Themes & Reading Comfort

BibleText.com includes five professionally designed color themes. Choose the one that is easiest on your eyes, whether reading at night or in bright light.

Available themes

• Bible Brown Dark (default) — warm parchment-brown tones on a dark background. Easy on the eyes for extended reading.
• Bible Brown Light — a lighter brown variant with a soft ultramarine overlay. Great in daytime.
• Royal Blue — deep navy surroundings with a crisp white reading page.
• Royal Purple — deep indigo-purple surroundings with a white reading page.
• Royal Green — forest green surroundings with a white reading page.

To change your theme, scroll to the bottom of any page and click a colored circle in the Theme picker. Your choice is saved to your browser and applies instantly across the whole site.

Font size

On reading pages, the A− and A+ buttons in the text-size bar let you decrease or increase the reading font size. Your preferred size is saved and restored whenever you return.

Cross-reference toggle & printing

The Cross-Refs toggle in the text-size bar lets you show or hide inline cross-reference links on any chapter. Turn them off when you want a clean, distraction-free reading experience or when printing — the print view automatically strips all UI and produces a clean chapter layout with proper margins.

👤 8. Free Account & Personal Tools

Reading, narration, search, concordance, topics, Ask AI, Bible Stories, and the Glossary are all completely free with no account required. Creating a free account unlocks personal tools that help you gather and organize your study over time.

What you get with a free account

• Bookmarks & Verse Collections — save individual verses, or hand-picked groups of verses with cross-references, for quick reference.
• Chapter Notes — write and save notes for any chapter in the Bible, like writing in the margins.
• My Conversations — recall past AI chatbot and Ask AI conversations any time.
• My Questions — build a personal library of your own favorite questions to ask the chatbot.
• Reading Plans with Progress — enroll in plans and track streaks and milestone badges.
• Bible Studies — gather bookmarks, verse collections, AI conversations, stories, glossary entries, and notes into a named study, then export it to PDF or PowerPoint.

How to create an account

1. Click Register in the top-right navigation (or go to register.php).
2. Enter a username, email address, and password. No credit card, no spam — your data stays private.
3. You are logged in immediately after registering. Your session persists so you stay logged in across visits.

🔖 9. Bookmarks & Verse Collections

Quick Verse Bookmarks

While reading, hover over any verse and click the small circle (○) that appears beside the verse number. It turns gold (●) instantly — the verse is bookmarked. Click the gold circle again at any time to remove the bookmark. To save the whole chapter, use the ✦ Bookmark Chapter button in the chapter action bar. When you bookmark a verse, its full KJV text is saved with it and displayed on the My Bookmarks page. From there you can add a personal note to any bookmark, add it to a Bible Study, or remove it.

Verse Collections

A Verse Collection is a named group of hand-picked verses assembled while you read — more powerful than a single bookmark because it can span chapters and books, include cross-reference verses in a structured hierarchy, and carry notes at both the collection level and the individual verse level.

• Start selecting — click Select Verses in the chapter toolbar. Click any verse number to select it (outlined highlight marks each selection). A counter bar at the bottom tracks your count.
• Add cross-references with “Add to Selection” — open the cross-reference panel for any verse while you have an active selection and click Add to Selection. Those cross-referenced verses join your active selection as cross-reference entries. When saved they display indented beneath their parent verse with a blue left border.
• Standalone cross-reference set with “Collect These Verses” — also in the cross-reference panel, Collect These Verses creates a brand-new collection from those cross-reference verses immediately, without needing an active selection first. Use this when you want to save a set of cross-references as its own named collection.
• Save — click Save to Collection in the bottom bar, name the collection, add an optional note, and choose to create a new collection or add to an existing one.
• View and manage — the Collections tab on the My Bookmarks page shows every collection as an expandable card. Click the name or chevron to see the hierarchy: primary verses (gold border) with cross-reference verses indented beneath them (blue border). Edit, remove individual verses, or delete collections from here. A label on each card shows which Bible Studies contain it.
• Add to a study — use Add to Study on any collection card to attach it to a named Bible Study. It appears in the study in the same hierarchical format and is included in the PDF export.

✎ 10. Chapter Notes

Chapter Notes are like writing in the margins of a paper Bible — a place to jot down thoughts chapter by chapter, whether or not they ever become part of a formal study.

How to write a chapter note

1. The floating pencil (✎) button on any reading page opens your note editor for the current chapter. New notes are pre-filled with the book and chapter heading so you always know which chapter the note belongs to.
2. Use the verse reference dropdown to insert a formatted reference like [Genesis 1:1] anywhere in your note.
3. Use the section separator button to insert a rule line and organize a longer note into sections.
4. Optionally link the note to a study so it appears in that study’s Chapter Notes section — or leave it unlinked to keep it purely personal.

View and manage all your notes on the My Notes page, organized by book (Old/New Testament tabs). Export any book’s notes as a formatted PDF.

💬 11. My Conversations

Every conversation you have with the AI — whether in the reading-page chatbot or the Ask AI tab on Search — can be recalled later without re-asking your question.

How to use My Conversations

1. Click the 💬 My Conversations toggle in the chatbot panel or on the Ask AI tab of Search to open the panel listing your saved conversations.
2. Click any past conversation to reopen it and continue where you left off.
3. Use Add to Study on any conversation to snapshot it into a named Bible Study — the conversation remains available in My Conversations even after being added to a study.

📝 12. My Questions

My Questions is your personal library of favorite questions to ask the AI chatbot while reading — a way to preload your own recurring lines of inquiry instead of retyping them every time.

How to build your question library

1. While chatting with the reading-page AI chatbot, type a question in the input box and click the 🔖 bookmark icon to save it.
2. Open your saved questions any time by clicking the ☰ list icon in the chat header — questions are grouped by chapter relevance so the most useful ones surface first.
3. Manage your full library on the My Questions page (up to 50 questions) — add, edit, or remove questions there.

📅 13. Bible Reading Plans

BibleText.com offers 50 curated KJV reading plans in three categories: Canonical (cover-to-cover and focused plans), Thematic (topic-focused journeys), and Seasonal (Advent, Lent, New Year, etc.).

Browsing plans — no account needed

1. Go to the Reading Plans page and browse by category (All / Canonical / Thematic / Seasonal) or scroll through all 50 plans.
2. Click a plan card to see the full day-by-day schedule, description, and estimated duration.

📑 14. Saving to a Bible Study

A Bible Study is a named collection that gathers everything related to a topic, book, or research project in one place — verse collections, bookmarks, AI conversations, Bible Stories, glossary entries, and chapter notes. One consistent Add to Study pattern is used everywhere on the site — learn it once and you can add almost anything to a study.

How to create a study and add content

1. Create a study first from My Studies, or create one on the fly from the Add to Study prompt.
2. From the Search page’s Ask AI tab, click Add to Study on any saved conversation.
3. From any Bible story, click Add to Study to attach it.
4. From any glossary word, click Add to Study to attach it.
5. From My Chapter Notes, click Add to Study on any note — or save it straight to a study from inside the note editor itself while you’re writing it.
6. From My Bookmarks, click Add to Study on the Bookmarks tab.
7. From My Bookmarks, click Add to Study on the Collections tab.
8. From the Bible Assistant chapter chatbot’s Conversation History, click Add to Study on any saved conversation.
9. From a study’s own Notes section, both Personal Notes and Scripture Notes are already part of the study — no separate Add to Study step is needed for those.

What a study contains

• Verse Collections — shown with the same primary-verse / indented-cross-reference hierarchy used on My Bookmarks.
• Bookmarks saved from reading
• AI Conversations snapshotted from the chatbot or Ask AI
• Bible Stories added from the stories page
• Glossary Words added from the glossary
• Chapter Notes linked from the note editor

📄 15. PDF & PowerPoint Export

Exporting a Study to PDF

Every study has an Export PDF button. The export includes a branded banner header, all sections with bold colored headings, the full verse text of every verse collection (with the same indented cross-reference hierarchy you see on-screen), clickable links for every verse and cross-reference, formatted AI conversation history, any notes attached to an entry, and a branding footer — ready for printing or sharing.

Generating a PowerPoint from the AI Chatbot

The reading-page AI chatbot can also turn a conversation into a PowerPoint presentation — useful for preparing a lesson or sermon outline directly from your Bible study conversation. Look for the presentation-generation option in the chatbot panel after a conversation.
