Second Chronicles 16 opens with Asa bribing Ben-hadad of Syria with temple treasure to break his treaty with Israel's king Baasha, who was fortifying Ramah against Judah. The prophet Hanani rebukes Asa for trusting Syria instead of the Lord, foretelling future wars, and Asa imprisons him in anger. The chapter closes with Asa afflicted by disease in his feet, seeking physicians rather than the Lord, and dying in his forty-first year.
