The Scripture
(5) But the Chaldeans' army pursued after them, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho: and when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he gave judgment upon him.

Jeremiah 39 opens with Nebuchadnezzar's army breaching Jerusalem, Zedekiah fleeing but being captured, his sons slain before him, and his eyes put out before he is carried in chains to Babylon. Nebuzaradan then burns the temple and city, breaks the walls, and exiles the people, leaving only the poor behind. The chapter closes with Jeremiah released to Gedaliah's care and the Lord's promise to spare Ebedmelech the Ethiopian for trusting Him.
