Chapter overview (whole chapter)

Esther 5 records that on the third day Esther puts on royal apparel and enters the inner court, where the king receives her and extends the golden scepter, offering her up to half the kingdom. She requests only that the king and Haman attend a banquet she has prepared, and at the banquet she asks them to come to another banquet the next day. Haman goes home puffed up with his honor, yet his mood sours when he sees Mordecai still refusing to bow, so his wife and friends advise him to build a fifty-cubit gallows and ask the king to hang Mordecai on it the next day, which pleases Haman and he has the gallows made.
