II Chronicles 28:1
The Scripture
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Second Chronicles 28 describes the wicked reign of King Ahaz of Judah, who worshiped Baal, made molten images, and even sacrificed his own sons in the fire according to the abominations of the surrounding nations. As a consequence, God allowed Judah to suffer crushing defeats at the hands of Syria, Israel, Edom, and Philistia, and Ahaz sought help from Assyria only to find himself further oppressed rather than rescued. Instead of repenting, Ahaz shut the doors of the temple, set up altars to foreign gods throughout Jerusalem, and died leaving a legacy of unfaithfulness that had brought Judah to its lowest point.
