II Chronicles 24:5
The Scripture
(5) And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that ye hasten the matter. Howbeit the Levites hastened it not.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Joash, guided by the priest Jehoiada, ordered the repair of the temple by collecting money from the people, and after Jehoiada's death Joash turned to idolatry and had Jehoiada's son Zechariah stoned to death for rebuking him. As judgment, a small Syrian army defeated Judah's much larger force, and Joash was later assassinated by his own servants in his bed.
