Chapter overview (whole chapter)

First Chronicles 13 records David consulting with the leaders of Israel to bring the ark of God back, since it had not been sought in the days of Saul. They set the ark on a new cart driven by Uzzah and Ahio, but when the oxen stumble Uzzah reaches out to steady the ark and the Lord strikes him down, so David becomes angry and afraid, leaving the ark at the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. The Lord blesses Obed-edom and all his household during the three months the ark remains there, preparing the way for David to bring it to Jerusalem.
