Chapter overview (whole chapter)

Second Kings 9 recounts how Elisha sends a young prophet to Ramoth-gilead to anoint Jehu king over Israel and commission him to strike down the house of Ahab and avenge the Lord's servants and prophets. Jehu rides to Jezreel and kills Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah, then has Jezebel thrown from a window, where dogs devour her flesh, fulfilling Elijah's prophecy. The chapter closes with Jezebel's remains-only the skull, feet, and palms of her hands-so that no one can say, "This is Jezebel," as foretold by the Lord through Elijah.
