Psalm 114 is a brief exodus psalm celebrating Israel's deliverance from Egypt, when Judah became God's sanctuary and Israel His dominion. It vividly pictures the sea fleeing and the Jordan driven back, while the mountains skipped like rams and the little hills like lambs at the presence of the Lord. The psalm closes by calling the earth to tremble at the presence of the God of Jacob, who turned the rock into a standing water and the flint into a fountain of waters.
