The Scripture
(29) As for the sons of Merari, thou shalt number them after their families, by the house of their fathers;

The Israelites are instructed to count their numbers and to set apart the tribe of Levi for their service. The chapter also records the division of the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh and the appointment of leaders for each tribe.
