Mark 2:1
The Scripture
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Mark 2 recounts a cluster of early conflicts, beginning with four men lowering a paralyzed friend through the roof of a crowded house in Capernaum, where Jesus first forgives the man's sins-drawing blasphemy charges from the scribes-and then heals him to prove the Son of Man's authority. He calls the tax collector Levi to follow him and eats with publicans and sinners, prompting the Pharisees to question his disciples, and he answers that the well need no physician. The chapter closes with disputes over fasting, where Jesus speaks of the new cloth and new wineskins, and over the Sabbath as his hungry disciples pluck grain and he declares himself Lord of the Sabbath.
