The Scripture
(9) For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

In this chapter the law commands the Israelites to keep the day of atonement holy and to avoid defiling it with any work or eating. It also instructs them to refrain from touching the sacred objects and to keep the altar clean. The focus is on purity and reverence for God’s holiness.
