The Scripture
(38) Now there was an appointed sign between the men of Israel and the liers in wait, that they should make a great flame with smoke rise up out of the city.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
In chapter 20 the Israelites relapse into idolatry after a time of peace and Gideon’s victory over the Midianites, which he accomplishes through divine guidance. The chapter shows that even great victories cannot replace true repentance and faithful obedience to God.
