The Scripture
(40) But when the flame began to arise up out of the city with a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and, behold, the flame of the city ascended up to heaven.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
In chapter 20 the Israelites relapse into idolatry after a time of peace and Gideon’s victory over the Midianites, which he accomplishes through divine guidance. The chapter shows that even great victories cannot replace true repentance and faithful obedience to God.
