The Scripture
(8) Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

The Israelites, still living under Egyptian oppression, take refuge in a cave near Shechem where God sends an angel to tell them to go to the mountain of the LORD and receive a blessing. This chapter opens the cycle of divine rescue and establishes the theme of God’s promise of future deliverance.
