Jeremiah 51:31
The Scripture
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Jeremiah 51 is the long oracle of Babylon's doom, in which the Lord raises up a destroying wind and fanners to empty her land, declaring that her slain shall fall in the streets and that Israel and Judah are not widowed of their God. It summons the nations to assemble against Babylon, prophesies her sudden capture and the breaking of her idols, and recounts how the Lord, the true Creator, will repay her for her pride and cruelty against Zion. The chapter closes with the symbolic act of binding a stone to the book of these prophecies and casting it into the Euphrates, declaring that so shall Babylon sink and not rise from the evil the Lord will bring upon her.
