Chapter overview (whole chapter)

Jeremiah 37 records the reign of Zedekiah, whom Nebuchadnezzar made king in Judah but who would not heed the Lord's words by Jeremiah, and tells how Zedekiah sent men to ask the prophet to pray for the nation. When Pharaoh's army came out of Egypt and the Chaldeans lifted the siege, the princes throw Jeremiah into the dungeon house of Jonathan the scribe, where he languishes in the mire. The chapter closes with Zedekiah secretly summoning Jeremiah to ask if there is any word from the Lord, hearing the prophet's warning that he will be delivered into the king of Babylon's hand, and ordering him kept in the court of the prison with a daily ration of bread until it ran out.
