Jeremiah 38:14
The Scripture
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Jeremiah 38 opens with the princes casting Jeremiah into a muddy cistern for prophesying surrender to Babylon, where he sinks in the mire. Ebedmelech the Ethiopian pleads for his life and lifts him out with rags and cords, and he is kept in the court of the prison. The chapter closes with King Zedekiah secretly consulting Jeremiah, who urges surrender to spare the city, and the king swearing him to silence until Jerusalem falls.
