The Scripture
(16) And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
In Genesis 1 God creates the heavens and the earth and separates light from darkness, then the sky, the waters, the land, and the plants, followed by the sun, moon and stars, the sea creatures, the birds, and finally humanity. The chapter emphasizes that each creation is good and that God rests on the seventh day, establishing the Sabbath. This establishes the orderly and purposeful nature of creation.
