(4) And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers.

Moses and Aaron go to Pharaoh with a request for the Israelites to be released from slavery, but Pharaoh refuses and sends the elders to hear his decree. The chapter records the Israelites' continued hardship and the increasing anger of God, setting the stage for a stronger demand.
