The Scripture
(15) So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.

David sinfully ordered a census of Israel and Judah, and as punishment the LORD sent a plague that killed seventy thousand men before David interceded. David then purchased Araunah's threshing floor, built an altar there, and offered sacrifices to stop the plague.
