The Scripture
(27) Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Because of Israel's persistent idolatry and refusal to heed the prophets, the LORD allowed Shalmaneser king of Assyria to conquer Samaria and carry Israel away into captivity. The Assyrians then resettled the land with foreign peoples who adopted a mixed worship of the LORD alongside their own idols.
