(16) The trespass money and sin money was not brought into the house of the LORD: it was the priests'.

King Jehoash instructed the priests to collect money for repairing the house of the LORD and later had Jehoiada the priest set up a chest to gather offerings for the temple's restoration. When Hazael of Syria threatened Jerusalem, Jehoash paid him off with treasures from the temple and palace to spare the city.
