The Scripture
(11) And they gave the money, being told, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD: and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders, that wrought upon the house of the LORD,

King Jehoash instructed the priests to collect money for repairing the house of the LORD and later had Jehoiada the priest set up a chest to gather offerings for the temple's restoration. When Hazael of Syria threatened Jerusalem, Jehoash paid him off with treasures from the temple and palace to spare the city.
