The Scripture
(10) And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the LORD.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
King Jehoash instructed the priests to collect money for repairing the house of the LORD and later had Jehoiada the priest set up a chest to gather offerings for the temple's restoration. When Hazael of Syria threatened Jerusalem, Jehoash paid him off with treasures from the temple and palace to spare the city.
