The Scripture
(7) But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Paul described himself and his fellow ministers as carrying the treasure of the gospel in earthen vessels, so that the excellency of the power would be of God and not of themselves, being troubled but not distressed, persecuted but not forsaken. He affirmed that though the outward man perishes, the inward man is renewed daily, and light affliction produces a far greater eternal weight of glory.
