Chapter overview (whole chapter)

Second Chronicles 25 records the reign of Amaziah, who did right but not with a perfect heart, and who on establishing his kingdom executed his father's assassins while sparing their children according to the law of Moses. He hires Israelite mercenaries but releases them at a prophet's warning, then defeats Edom in the Valley of Salt, but afterward brings back Edom's idols and worships them, provoking a prophet's rebuke. Pride leads Amaziah to challenge Joash king of Israel, whose forces defeat him, break down Jerusalem's wall, and plunder the temple and palace; later a conspiracy drives him to Lachish, where he is killed and brought back for burial.
