II Chronicles 12:13
The Scripture
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Second Chronicles 12 records that after Rehoboam had strengthened his kingdom, he and all Israel forsook the law of the Lord, so in his fifth year Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem with a vast host and captured Judah's fortified cities. Through the prophet Shemaiah the Lord declares that because they had forsaken Him, He has left them in Shishak's hand, whereupon the leaders humble themselves and the Lord grants them some deliverance, though they become Shishak's servants. The chapter closes by noting Rehoboam did evil because he did not set his heart to seek the Lord, and after continual wars with Jeroboam he died and his son Abijah reigned.
