Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Second Chronicles 10 recounts the kingdom's division, as Rehoboam goes to Shechem to be made king and Jeroboam returns from Egypt to lead the people's request to lighten Solomon's heavy yoke. Rehoboam rejects the elders' gentle counsel and follows the young men's harsh advice, vowing to chastise the people with scorpions. Israel rebels, stones Rehoboam's taskmaster Hadoram, and drives the king to flee to Jerusalem, leaving only Judah loyal to the house of David.
