Chapter overview (whole chapter)
First Samuel 14 recounts how Jonathan and his armor-bearer launch a daring two-man attack on a Philistine garrison, climbing a steep rocky pass, and the Lord sends panic through the enemy camp so that the Philistines melt away and even turn on one another. Saul's rash oath forbidding food until evening weakens his fainting men, and he nearly puts Jonathan to death for unknowingly tasting honey before the people ransom him. The chapter closes with a summary of Saul's family and his continual, fierce war against the Philistines, noting that he drafted every strong man he found.
