Proverbs 29 is a string of maxims opening with the warning that a man often reproved who hardens his neck will suddenly be destroyed without remedy, and that when the righteous rule the people rejoice but when the wicked rule the people mourn. It teaches that the king establishes the land by justice but one who takes gifts overthrows it, that a wise son makes his father glad, and that he who corrects his son gives himself delight. The chapter closes with the sayings that the fear of man brings a snare but whoever trusts in the Lord will be safe, that every man's judgment comes from the Lord, and that the unjust is an abomination to the just while the upright is an abomination to the wicked.
