(18) And the LORD said unto Moses, Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him;
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
In Numbers 27 the Israelites camp at Kadesh after crossing the Jordan. The Reubenites and Gadites ask to settle east of the Jordan and take the land for themselves and they are told by Moses that they shall not do so. Because of their disobedience they are punished and die in the wilderness.
