Nehemiah 12:47
The Scripture
(47) And all Israel in the days of Zerubbabel, and in the days of Nehemiah, gave the portions of the singers and the porters, every day his portion: and they sanctified holy things unto the Levites; and the Levites sanctified them unto the children of Aaron.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Nehemiah 12 records the dedication of the temple and the giving of the people, after Nehemiah returns to Jerusalem and is given authority to oversee the work. The chapter describes the king’s decree that the people should give a portion of their food, oil, and wine, and the joy of the people as they celebrate the completion of the temple. It emphasizes God’s faithfulness and the importance of communal worship and sacrifice.
