Matthew 15 opens with scribes and Pharisees from Jerusalem challenging Jesus about his disciples eating with unwashed hands, and he rebukes them for nullifying God's command by their tradition of Corban, calling them hypocrites whose hearts are far from Him. He teaches the crowd that what comes out of the mouth defiles, not what goes in, and commends a Canaanite woman's persistent faith for her afflicted daughter, healing the girl because of her 'even the crumbs' plea. The chapter closes with Jesus healing the lame, blind, and maimed among the multitudes who glorify the God of Israel, and feeding four thousand men plus women and children from seven loaves and a few fish, with seven baskets left over.
