Chapter overview (whole chapter)

Luke 8 records Jesus traveling through Galilee accompanied by the twelve apostles and a group of devoted women who supported his ministry out of their own resources. He teaches the Parable of the Sower to the crowds and explains its meaning privately to the disciples, emphasizing the importance of receiving the word with an honest and good heart. The chapter then presents four dramatic demonstrations of Jesus's power: calming a violent storm on the Sea of Galilee, delivering a man possessed by a legion of demons in the region of the Gerasenes, healing a woman who had suffered a bleeding ailment for twelve years, and raising the twelve-year-old daughter of Jairus from the dead.
