Luke 18 opens with the parable of the unjust judge and the persistent widow, teaching that God will surely avenge His own who cry to Him day and night, followed by the parable of the Pharisee and the publican, where the humbled sinner rather than the self-righteous man goes home justified. Jesus receives little children, declaring that the kingdom belongs to such as them, and challenges the rich young ruler to sell all and follow, warning how hard it is for the rich to enter and promising great reward to those who leave all for the kingdom. The chapter closes with Jesus foretelling his suffering, death, and resurrection, and with him healing a blind beggar near Jericho who cries 'Son of David, have mercy on me,' and the man receives his sight and follows, glorifying God.
