Luke 14:31
The Scripture
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Luke 14 records Jesus dining at a Pharisee ruler's house on the Sabbath, where he heals a man with dropsy and challenges the lawyers and Pharisees on whether it is lawful to heal on the Sabbath. He teaches humility by urging guests to take the lowest place and the host to invite the poor, maimed, lame, and blind who cannot repay, and he tells the parable of the great supper whose invited guests make excuses so that the poor and outcast are brought in. The chapter closes with the parables of counting the cost-building a tower and a king going to war-and the warning that whoever does not forsake all he has cannot be Christ's disciple, and that salt without savor is fit only to be cast out.
