Leviticus 17:7
The Scripture
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
Leviticus 17 commands that every animal sacrificed by the Israelites be brought to the door of the tabernacle and offered to the Lord, and that anyone who slaughters elsewhere or offers sacrifices to devils shall be cut off from his people. It stresses the sacredness of blood as the life of the flesh, requiring that it be poured on the altar to make atonement and forbidding its consumption on pain of being cut off. The chapter also addresses those who eat an animal that died of itself or was torn by beasts, who must wash and remain unclean until evening or bear their iniquity.
