(17) For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim.

The people of Jerusalem weep and lament as their city is destroyed and the king's son is taken away. They cry out to God for his wrath and for the loss of their beloved. Yet they also recall the promise of God's mercy and the hope of a future restoration.
