The Scripture
(17) And the men of Israel, beside Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men that drew sword: all these were men of war.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)
In chapter 20 the Israelites relapse into idolatry after a time of peace and Gideon’s victory over the Midianites, which he accomplishes through divine guidance. The chapter shows that even great victories cannot replace true repentance and faithful obedience to God.
