(21) I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died:

After the death of Gideon, his son Abimelech rises to power and kills his brothers, taking the land of their father. He then rules over the Israelites for a short time before being overthrown by his own people. This chapter shows how Israel's leadership often comes from within and is filled with violence and instability.
