Chapter overview (whole chapter)
After Gideon’s death the people of Israel were left without a leader and Abimelech, Gideon’s son, seized the opportunity to rule. He gathered the men of the tribe of Manasseh and offered to fight, but his plan was quickly uncovered and he was killed by the people. The chapter shows how rebellion and pride can lead to disaster and how the nation must rely on God’s protection.
