The Scripture
(25) And when he shewed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.

The Israelites, still living under Egyptian oppression, take refuge in a cave near Shechem where God sends an angel to tell them to go to the mountain of the LORD and receive a blessing. This chapter opens the cycle of divine rescue and establishes the theme of God’s promise of future deliverance.
