After the resurrection, Jesus appears to his disciples on the road to Emmaus, explaining the Scriptures to them, and they recognize him as the Messiah. Later, he appears to the eleven disciples on the mountain, granting them the authority to forgive sins. This chapter emphasizes the risen Christ’s power, the fulfillment of prophecy, and the new authority of the disciples.

(1) The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
