Chapter overview (whole chapter)
In this chapter the Lord sends a messenger to Job to ask about his wealth and the number of his livestock, and Job replies that his possessions are few. The messenger then inquires about his friends and the number of his children, and Job again says he has few. The passage emphasizes God’s sovereignty over human wealth and the futility of measuring one’s life by material possessions.
