Job 19 is Job's anguished reply to Bildad, asking how long his friends will torment him and crush him with words, describing how God has stripped him of glory, broken him down on every side, and alienated even his brothers, acquaintances, servants, and wife, so that he is left utterly alone and repulsive to himself. He cries for pity from his friends and pleads that his words be inscribed in a book, then rises to one of Scripture's great declarations of faith: he knows that his Redeemer lives and will one day stand upon the earth, and though his skin be destroyed, in his flesh he will see God for himself. The chapter ends with a warning to his friends to fear the sword of God's wrath, since judgment will strike the unjust.
