The Scripture

(27) But fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.
Chapter overview (whole chapter)

Jeremiah 46 opens the Lord's words against the Gentiles, beginning with Egypt and the army of Pharaoh Necho, which Nebuchadnezzar defeated at Carchemish in the fourth year of Jehoiakim. It summons Egypt to harness her horses and furbish her spears, then mocks her staggering army and declares that the Lord will bring disaster like the overflowing Nile, commanding her to flee and declaring her shame. The chapter foretells Nebuchadnezzar's invasion of Egypt and the desolation of her cities, and closes with a word of comfort to Jacob, promising that the Lord will save him from afar, correct him in measure, and make a full end of the nations but not of him.
